Jermaine Dupri Confirms So So Def And Bad Boy Records Will Face Off In ‘Verzuz’ Battle

Legendary producer and record executive Jermaine Dupri has confirmed that So So Def and Bad Boy Records will face off in a Verzuz battle.

During his recent appearance at the ONE Musicfest in Atlanta, Dupri announced that there will be a Verzuz

battle between the two iconic music labels.

“I’m saying this to let y’all know: the So So Def Bad Boy Verzuz is happening,” he said to an excited crowd at Centennial Olympic Park.

In August, the So So Def founder and Bad Boy records’ founder Sean “Diddy” Combs discussed possibly having a “hit for hit” battle via Instagram Live.

“J.D., if you want that smoke, you can get that smoke anytime,” Combs told Dupri. At the time, both Verzuz founders–superproducers Swizz Beatz and Timbaland–were in a legal fight against popular streaming platform Triller. The two have since settled the case, in which they reportedly won $28 million.

“Since we ain’t f**kin’ with Verzuz no more cuz they f**kin’ around with our boys,” Combs added. “You know what I’m saying? We don’t need to be against each other. Let’s come together and do that Bad Boy, So So Def in Atlanta…It ain’t no Verzuz

, it’s just hit for hit.”

Back in 2020, Dupri also appeared on The Fat Joe Show and told veteran Bronx rapper Fat Joe he was open to battling Diddy in a Verzuz.

“Jermaine, you for the culture, but if the Verzuz come on and it’s live from ATL with the chandeliers. You would prefer you to be sitting in one chair and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sitting in the other?” Joe asked Dupri.

“A hundred percent. We gonna break the f****ng Internet,” the hitmaker responded. “You know, the internet [will be] broken that day… That’s what people want to see. That’s the thing everybody keep talkin’ about.”
