Jason Lee Talks Career, Cancel Culture And Kanye West In New ‘Drink Champs’ Episode

Media personality Jason Lee appeared on the latest episode of Drink Champs with N.O.R.E. and DJ E.F.N. to discuss his media career, cancel culture, boundaries, and more.

During the interview, Lee discussed Whoopi Goldberg and Joe Rogan after both faced criticism for their controversial and racist statements on their respective platforms. ABC suspended Goldberg for two weeks following her remarks about the holocaust on The View. Meanwhile, Rogan was canceled by many following comments about Black people and using the N-word on his Spotify show The Joe Rogan Experience.

“Cancel culture really only sticks for Black people. White people, they can get canceled today, and tomorrow they can be [on] a whole ‘nother magazine. They can have another Fortune 500 support them,” Lee explained

. He also compared the differences in cancel culture between Rogan and Goldberg and the consequences of their actions. “Cancel culture really ain’t real unless it’s our culture it applies to because then they don’t just cancel us, they try to destroy us.”

The 43-year-old man revealed on the podcast that it’s often hard for his friends to trust him with information since he owns a major media company.

“Even the people I’m closest to still feel like they gotta be careful, which I respect, but they still give me dignity. I’m not an animal. I’m not searching for a story because I get the stories all day,” he said.

When asked if he’s ever been told to hold news, Lee said he waited to report on Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s pregnancy until after they went public with the news.

In November, West appeared on Drink Champs and discussed a few topics, including his relationship with Big Sean. Noreaga opened the dialogue by asking the Chicago Native: “Pusha [T] or Big Sean?” He had some choice words regarding his former protégé. “Oh, I love this!! Let me tell you. I already decided that when I die, on my tombstone, it’s gonna say, ‘I deserve to be here because I signed Big Sean,'” Sis2Sis reported

. He went on to say that signing the Detroit rapper was the worst decision he’s ever made.

When the new year started, the two rappers were spotted together and seemingly put aside their differences. Lee recalled being present to witness the moment.

“I walk in the back and the lights are down, and it’s Pusha T, French Montana, Big Sean, Ye and me. I’m like, ‘I don’t need to be here.’ Whatever y’all four n***as is talking about, I don’t want to know because part of me [feels] like celebrities get uncomfortable with me in the room,” Lee shared.

“Ye is like, ‘F**k that, we not doing this behind the scenes, we doing it in your face.'” I love the fact that these two Black men — who are clearly both successful, who clearly have a respect for one another, who were honest and purely transparent on this show — were able to get it off but have a respectful conversation.”

He continued, “Kanye looked at him and said, ‘I don’t take back s**t I said about you. Everything I said I meant it.”

And Big Sean said, “Everything I said, I meant it, but I want to get to a place of healing.”

And they did it in a respectful way but a very serious and honest way.”

Lee started his career as a supporting cast member on Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood after two appearances in season 2. However, he landed a starring role in seasons 3 and 6 of the reality series.

In 2015, he launched Hollywood Unlocked, one of the largest media platforms with more than 2.8 million followers across Instagram and 300K YouTube subscribers. Since then, the California native has developed relationships with Rihanna, Drake, and Kanye West.
