Janet Jackson Will Be Doing #MeToo Checks On Her 2023 “Together Again” Tour Employees

Janet Jackson is ripping a page from Beyoncé’s book by implementing #MeToo checks on employees on her upcoming 2023 “Together Again” tour.

According to The Sun, the “Rhythm Nation” singer is willing to spend big bucks to ensure her staff members, from “dancers and band mates to crew and general staff,” are right and “don’t have a history of abuse.” The purpose is to create “safe and kind work environments,” deeming it “more important than profits.” Ms. Jackson can’t afford any mishaps.

“She also wants a completely non-toxic working environment for all her staff, and by implementing these early checks she is eradicating the risk,” the source said. “Janet’s ‘Together Again’ tour is expected to generate over $70 million and will be a massive event. A show that big and of the scale Janet plans cannot afford anything to happen to it.”

Beyoncé implemented #MeToo checks after a former associate got arrested in 2020 for sexual assault.

As Sis2Sis previously reported, Jackson’s “Together Again” tour was announced in December through Instagram. The tour begins in April in Hollywood, Florida. She added another date for Hollywood, FL, two days after the first. Her special guest joining her will be rapper Ludacris.

The #MeToo movement was founded by activist Tarana Burke in 2006, aiming to help survivors of sexual violence.

The movement bloomed over the years, especially in 2017 after sexual abuse allegations against former film producer Harvey Weinstein surfaced.

Many people came forward, including celebrities, revealing that they’ve experienced sexual misconduct. One of the issues brought to light was that many sexual transgressions occurred in workplaces and were ignored by employers, despite it being their job to ensure their employees felt safe and secure.

Hopefully, this will entice more artists to implement background checks on their employees and music venues to enact precautions to protect artists from experiencing sexual misconduct from their fans. Singer Kehlani shared how they were “sick to their stomach” after a fan put his hand up her skirt at her concert.

Tickets to Jackson’s “Together Again” tour are available for purchase.
