Janet Hubert Announces New Role In AMC Series ‘Demascus’

Famed actress Janet Hubert has landed her first television role in 32 years with AMC’s Demascus. The Fresh Prince Prince of Bel-Air star took to Instagram on Wednesday and announced the exciting news to her followers.

“My fist series in 32 years. I have joined the cast of AMC’S DEMASCUS. I am honored and excited 😊 to be a part of this brilliant series!” Hubert captioned the post.

Playwright and director Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm created the half-hour comedic sci-fi series centered around star Okieriete Onaodowan, with newcomers Caleb Eberhardt (

Judas & The Black Messiah, Betty), Shakira Ja’nai Paye (All Day and a Night, House Party) and Hubert. Demascus (Onaodowan) tells the story of a 33-year-old Black man on a journey to self-discovery using new-age technology while exploring Black male perspectives, Deadline reported.

Hubert will play Dr. Bonnetville, a sharp-witted psychotherapist who integrates apathy with innovative technology to help patients discover personal growth, per Variety.

The 66-year-old is best known for being the original ‘Aunt Viv’ on the classic ’90s sitcom for three seasons before she had a fallout with co-star Will Smith. Since then, Hubert’s acting career had taken a significant hit as she struggled to land other acting gigs in Hollywood. However, the iconic actress remains booked and busy preparing for her television debut in over three decades.

Fans flooded the comment section and congratulated Hubert on her new role on the show.

“Yessss Queen!!!! Congratulations blessings on blessings to you 🎊👑,” one user said.

Another user said, “Such a talented and beautiful woman. I’m So happy for you!!! Congratulations 🎉🎊🎈🍾.”

“You are so deserving of this. Congratulations!,” a third user said.

Karyn Parsons, who played the materialistic Hilary Banks in the comedy series, commented on the post by congratulating her former tv mom.

“They’re lucky to have you. ❤️ Congratulations!” Parsons said.

Kirk A. Moore, writer and producer of the AMC series, tweeted about the news on Wednesday, prompting other users to chime in.

Demascus will premiere next year on AMC and AMC+ to stream the episodes.
