While it was amusing at first, it seems that the Internet, especially its vocal Black community, is tired of seeing Janelle Monáe’s tits as they were flashed once again at Essence Fest.
Janelle is a proud nonbinary pansexual who uses both they/them and she/her pronouns and they have embarked on a free-the-nipple campaign to express their lack of inhibition. However, the rather tedious publicity stunt on June 30 at Essence Fest in New Orleans has caused people who were once on her side to express their criticism and concern.
What is this girl going through? She’s never been out there like this.. is it a midlife crisis?

One of those concerned critics, of all people, is rapper Luther Luke Campbell, also known as Uncle Luke, who is the grandfather of Florida’s dirty explicit hip-hop culture.
“What is this girl going through? She’s never been out there like this.. is it a midlife crisis?” Uncle Luke said on social media.
Janelle released her fourth studio album, “The Art of Pleasure,” on June 9, 2023, on Atlantic Records, with two singles have been released so far to promote the album: “Float” and “Lipstick Lover.”

The cover of the album features Janelle’s goodies once more.
Janelle announced the album alongside the release of “Lipstick Lover,” which they first previewed at their Met Gala after-party in early May. It is her first studio album in over five years since her previous album Dirty Computer in 2018.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the singer seems unconcerned with naysayers of the exposed titties publicity campaign for her new album, saying, “I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free.”
Among the female artists and celebrities who have flashed their titties or supported the free-the-nipple movement are the following: Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Chrissy Teigen.
The free-the-nipple movement is an advocacy campaign that aims to challenge and eliminate the societal taboos and censorship surrounding the exposure of female nipples.
The campaign argues for gender equality and seeks to address the double standards that exist in many societies, where male nipples are commonly allowed to be shown while female nipples are often subject to censorship and considered inappropriate or offensive.
