Janelle Monáe Inks Global Deal With Sony Music Publishing

Award-nominated singer and actress Janelle Monáe has signed an administration agreement with Sony Music Publishing, allowing her to grow her artistry with the reputable entertainment company. While the 35-year-old Hidden Figures star gears up for her upcoming role in Knives Out 2, she’s also excited to continue songwriting and bringing her unique style to the masses. 

Monáe previously generated heavy buzz with her 2018 futuristic visual album Dirty Computer, which debuted #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums Chart. Musicians Chuck Lightning and Nate “Rocket” Wonder, who

collaborated on Dirty Computer with Monáe, are currently working on new music alongside the songstress.

Lightning and Wonder have also signed to Sony Music Publishing.

In a press release, the Moonlight actress stated about the Sony opportunity, “As an artist who is constantly reinventing myself, I feel like I’m just getting started. I am excited about partnering with Big Jon and the rest of my new Sony family to help shape the future of music in the record industry as well as the fashion, and tv and film space.”

Shouting out her collaborators in an Instagram post, Monáe wrote

about the global deal, “Another rabbit hole w/ my day 1’s.”

Lightning also spoke about joining Sony Music Publishing, saying,As an artist and writer, I’m incredibly excited to impact culture, hearts and minds in bold new ways with the broad expertise and resources of our new Sony family. And I continue to believe that great music is needed more than ever right now, as a universal language that spreads wonder, change and understanding throughout the world.”
