“It’s Your Look,” CeeLo Green Jokes Online About Record Label Asking Him Not To Lose Weight

Three-time Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter CeeLo Green took to his Instagram over the weekend to let his fans in on a little-known secret. The “Crazy” entertainer revealed that his record label and management team told him at some point in his decades-long career that he would be better off not slimming down– telling him that “it’s his look.”

Posting a trendy meme to his account that read, “When I lose my stomach, please don’t speak to me. I plan on acting funny,” Green detailed the experience.

#lol do y’all know my label and Mgt asked me not to [lose] weight?” he captioned the pic, adding, “They said ‘noooo it’s your look’ what y’all think?”

Dozens of fans and celebrities entered his comments to share their opinion, including singer-songwriter and Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss. Friends in the music industry for years now, the “Just Kickin’ It” singer joked in her reply, “I don’t know what you’d look like skinny… some people just look good with a belly!”

Brely Evans, a Black actress known for her roles on Being Mary Jane and Sparkle, also commented on Green’s post, revealing that she could completely relate.

“Me too,” she posted

along with several laughing emojis to show she’s had the similar experience of being asked to stay the same size.

The former The Voice coach discussed his weight in a 2016 interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, telling them at the time, “So I’ve been getting more home cooking, eating better and eating at decent times. A lot of times, people associate overweight with overeating, but I don’t eat enough sometimes.”

“I might be in the studio for 12 hours and not eat or eat at midnight. You know what I’m saying? TV does add on a few pounds,” he continued.

With so many stories out of models, actors and other entertainment professionals being told to slim down and change their unique look, this offers a flip side to how management teams and label executives can choose to market artists by letting them be themselves.
