In an interview on November 29 on the Tameron Hall Show, singer/songwriter and actress Mary J. Blige spoke about some tough times in her life and shared details about her upcoming album.
She spoke about her experiences over the past several years, which includes her messy divorce that has, in turn, inspired the album.

“Wait till you hear it. It’s gonna blow everybody’s mind,” she said. “And it’s because it’s something I had to do, and something I had to say when I was in my darkest, darkest moments in that life, to build myself up to this person that I can see and accept my nose, accept my eyes, accept my cheeks, accept all the things that I used to hate.”
Blige said she has learned to love and accept herself over time. “When I wake up with no hair and makeup, I’m accepting that chick that goes to the bathroom, and I like her,” she said. “I hang out with myself a lot. I’m my own best friend.”
The Oscar-nominated actress then gave details into the heartbreaking and life-altering divorce from her ex-husband, Kendu Isaacs, in 2018.
“I just kept moving, and I didn’t get bitter,” she said. “I was upset…I just let God take the wheel and do his thing because If I had done anything, it would have been a disaster.”
Blige also spoke with Entertainment Tonight and talked about her upcoming performance in February. The 50-year-old is set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show alongside other artists like Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar.
“That’s a big stage; that’s the whole world really watching,” she told ET. “Just be beautiful and strong and courageous, and give the world what they need with that little bit of time I have.”
