Though we’re no longer in the mid-1990s, Friday is currently a trending topic on social media after Faizon Love, who famously played Big Worm in the comedy film, claimed that he received a $2,500 payout for the role. Ice Cube, who co-wrote and acted in the cult classic, took to his Twitter on Wednesday to set the record straight after a user accused him of “robbing his own people,” revealing that the actors were paid scale and that they always had the option to decline.

In a recent interview with Comedy Hype, Love stated that the money was a big reason he didn’t return for the

Friday sequel. The comedian was allegedly only offered $5,000 to return to the franchise.

Clapping back at a Twitter user who accused Ice Cube of “robbing his own people,” the “No Vaseline” rapper shot back, “I didn’t rob no f**kin’ body. The 1995 Friday movie cost $2.3m to make. Shot it in 20 days. Faizon worked 1 day, maybe 2. All the actors got paid scale to do the movie. They could’ve [simply] said “No,” but they didn’t. So miss me with that s**t….”

In a follow-up tweet, the South Central native responded to another user who wrote, “I thought I heard Chris Tucker quit over money.” 

Tucker portrayed one of the 1995 film’s main characters. Smokey, a low-level drug dealer who often got high on his own supply, provided some of Friday’s most iconic lines.

“We were ready to pay Chris Tucker $10-12m to do Next Friday, but he turned us down for religious reasons,” Ice Cube

tweeted back. “He didn’t want to cuss or smoke weed on camera anymore.”

Stating in an Instagram post that he has “zero regrets,” Love cleared the air by writing about Ice Cube and sharing a selfie with the Are We There Yet? star, “First of all, I not only consider Ice Cube a comrade, but my brother and I’m still a fan. I think he’s one of the dopest niggas to ever touch a mic. I guess it’s a slow news week, so let me say what I got paid is a moot point. It was the price of admission to a game. I have zero regrets.”

Responding to the heartfelt post on Twitter, Ice Cube posted a Black fist and 100 emoji, seemingly letting fans know that everything was all good between the two veteran actors.
