Promising Houston DJ, DJ D Baby (real name Darian Lewis), died Wednesday, July 13, after falling from her girlfriend’s downtown apartment building’s balcony on July 4, Houston Chronicle reported

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Independence day at the Camden Downtown Apartments on Austin Street, where 23-year-old DJ D Baby fell four stories from the balcony on the 13th floor to the 9th-floor pool deck. She was rushed to the hospital but died a week later.

Despite naming the occurrence an “unfortunate accident,” officials will continue investigating the situation.

DJ D Baby’s girlfriend Nishia Jackson took to Facebook to address the allegations that something more was happening.

“I’ve sat in silence out of respect for D, watching so many of you turn this tragedy into something it’s not,” Jackson wrote in the post. “I’ve decided to break my silence not necessarily for you all, but for she & I.”

According to Jackson, an associate of the Houston DJ dropped her off at Jackon’s house, yet an intoxicated DJ D Baby wanted to drive herself to her place, and Jackson barricaded the door.

“She ran to the patio (never in a million years would I have a reason to think that the next actions would follow),” Jackson recalled. “Once she climbed on the patio chair, I sprinted from the door to her, but she fell over before I could save her. I literally saw & heard her fall before my eyes. Running to her, I had to take the stairs because the elevator took too long. I got to her & immediately screamed & summoned for help! My property is a true high rise with a high balcony. There’s no way I could have pushed her over. She was only able to get over because she climbed onto the furniture. I would have literally had to pick her up & throw her over, which is absolutely absurd.”

Jackson also stated that the two weren’t fighting and had spent time together three days before DJ D Baby’s death.

The late DJ’s career began after graduating high school and attending Texas University.
