‘House Party’ Reboot Produced By LeBron James Possibly Shelved At HBO Max

The official House Party reboot, produced by four-time NBA champion LeBron James, has possibly been shelved at HBO Max.

The House Party reboot produced by James and Maverick Carter’s Springhill Entertainment was quietly removed from HBO Max’s roster. The film–a reboot of the classic 1990 movie–was reportedly scheduled to debut via the streaming platform on July 28.

The new and improved House Party, directed by Grammy Award-winning filmmaker Calmatic, follows two high school students who throw a huge party in LeBron’s home, losing his championship rings. The original film, starring legendary rappers Christopher “Kid” Reid and Chris “Play” Martin of Kid’ N Play, followed the high school friends as they tried to throw a giant house party sans an NBA icon. Its 2022 version was officially announced

in 2018 and stars actors Jacob Latimore, Tosin Cole, Melvin Gregg, and Rotimi, as well as comedians Bill Bellamy and DC Young Fly.

In an interview with ESPN in 2019, James said

it was “an honor” to “produce” and “reboot” House Party as he had “so much fun” watching the first one as a child.

“It’s fun; it [was] an honor when I got the opportunity to produce it [and] reboot the whole movie,” he told the sports outlet. “I had so much fun as a kid watching that movie, and when I was growing up as a youngster, I was like, ‘Man, I hope I have an opportunity to go to one of these house parties where it’s just a bunch of fun, a lot joking around, a lot of dancing…People just having a good time.”

The basketball phenom even hinted that he might make a cameo in the updated film.

“I’ll maybe even make a cameo in it, but we’ll see.”

There hasn’t been any announcement about whether the House Party reboot will be released via another streaming service.
