“House Party” Reboot Is Coming This Summer To HBO Max

The nostalgic ’90s comedic film is returning. A reboot of House Party is set to air on HBO Max this summer. The reboot was produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter via their entertainment company SpringHill.

Filmmaker Calmatic (Charles Kidd II) directed the movie with a screenplay by Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori. The remake stars Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, DC Young Fly, and Tosin Cole.

The reboot is based

on the original movie, which came out on March 9, 1990. The original film starred Christopher “Kid” Reid and Chris “Play” Martin, members of the hip hop duo Kid ‘N Play, and was about two high school friends trying to throw the ultimate house party. The 2022 version centers around the same plot.

There have been five installments of the film series: House Party (1990), House Party 2 (1991), House Party 3 (1994), House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute (2000), and House Party 5: Tonight’s the Night (2013).

“The goal behind this House Party is to make it a whole new film for a whole new generation,” Calmatic told BET. “I think people are going to be extremely surprised by the film.”

HBO Max, Warner Bro. Pictures, Bossip, and Global Grind, have all released a couple of exclusive first-look photos from the reboot on Instagram. In one photo, Cole and Latimore are at what appears to be a house party, dressed in suits. In another image, Latimore and Obilom sit next to each other with their feet in the pool.

The reboot is the first of two remakes that Calmatic is working on. According to Shadow And Act, Calmatic is also directing the White Men Can’t Jump

reboot from 20th Century Studios and will star rapper Jack Harlow, Teyana Taylor, Sinqua Walls, and Laura Harrier.

The 2022 version of the film will air on July 22.
