The Fugees are eating their words after news of a reunion tour hit the internet. The trio made up of Lauryn Hill, Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean disbanded in 1997 but reunited shortly in 2004 for good.
The group’s members have let bygones be bygones and announced their plans to go on tour to commemorate their 1996 album “The Score,” which turned 25 this year.
A source close to the Fugees told the Sun UK, “It is the reunion which nobody ever believed would happen, but it looks like Fugees will finally reunite. Lauryn, Pras and Wyclef are still discussing what exactly they will do, but they have managed to talk through everything which happened last time and feel like the time is right to return.”
“There is a lot of buzz, and they all want to make it happen.”
According to Pitchfork, it’s been 15 years since they’ve rocked the mic as a crew. The tour has twelve dates throughout November and December. The Fugees will perform on three continents, and a special pop-up show is scheduled for September 22 at an undisclosed location in New York City.
The group’s breakup was incredibly messy. Jean, the founder of the Fugees, alleged that Hill was the reason the group disbanded in a 2012 article by Complex. He claimed that the two bandmates were having an affair, and Hill lied about the paternity of her child. She allegedly said it was his and not Rohan Marley’s. Jean was married at the time.
In 2003, Rolling Stone reported that Hill was overwhelmed by the expectations of being “on” all the time. A person close to Hill told the publication, ”I feel like she’s lost. Something’s not right. I just feel like she’s sad and lonely and alone. I think she wants to cry out for help, but she has too much pride.”
Later on, after the “That Thing” singer began to perform again, she was plagued by a bad reputation and showing up hours late for shows.
Michel may be looking at jail time for some alleged Trumpesque-type scam. He is accused of funneling millions of dollars into the United States to bribe federal officials over an indictment.
The rapper maintains his innocence.
Hopefully, after 25 years, Hill, Jean and Michel have worked out their past issues. We wish them the best!
