Former Degrassi star and rapper Drake clapped back at veteran Hip Hop journalist Elliott Wilson early Monday morning, July 24, after he criticized the rapper for snubbing rap media and agreeing to interviews with “outsiders.”
Feb. 12, 2023, Sundae Conversation posted a humorous interview Barstool Sports‘ Caleb Pressley conducted with the “How to Love” hitmaker. On Friday, July 21, TikToker Bobbi Althoff posted her awkward interview with the rapper.
Pressley and Althoff are white.
Following these interviews, Wilson criticized the rapper in a since-deleted tweet for agreeing to do interviews with people outside the culture.
“Moment of clarity: No disrespect to Lil Boat,” the deleted tweet began. “Yachty’s convo with The Boy was comfy and had some cool moments. I was more so clowning the comedy shenanigans with outsiders of our culture. It would be great to hear Drake speak to us again. Even if it ain’t me.”
DJ Akademiks posted a video of Wilson interviewing Trippie Redd about his definition of “selling your soul” as a musician.
In the comments, Drake wrote, “Lol, man s***s on not coming to his platform for a second time and now Elliott 10 toes doing Yes Julz run-up interviews at Rolling Loud. Just admit the youth took over, big dog.”

Wilson responded to Drake by tweeting a screengrab of the Trippie Redd video and Drake’s comment, writing, “Oh, it’s go time? Cool.”

The last time Wilson interviewed Drake was in 2019 for the Rap Radar Podcast.
But Wilson wasn’t the only one to call out the “Fair Trade” rapper regarding Black culture.
After Childish Gambino claimed “This Is America” was to be a Drake diss, the rapper called the song overrated and Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden came for him, acknowledging that Gambino’s song addressed the issues in the world and culture while Drake said nothing. He clarified that didn’t need to but implied it’s why he shouldn’t speak on “This Is America.”
This is out of context.
Drake doesn’t have to. Nor should he if he doesn’t feel it.
But to say “This is America” is overrated and over awarded when that song came at a time when people needed someone to say something.
And he doesn’t feel the need to.
That’s all. https://t.co/WxgvqJqbxn
