On Saturday, Rapper Joyner Lucas reportedly aired out PR maven Karen Civil on Twitter– alleging that the woman stole $60,000 from him after he hired her as a consultant to boost his budding rap career in 2015.
“My son was on the way, and you stole 60k from me before I got in the game @KarenCivil. I hired you as a consultant, and below attached was the memo you sent me. I was desperate for help, and you knew that. After you was paid, you went ghost and didn’t expect me to pop. Here I am,” Lucas wrote on Twitter.
Lucas further explained that he was using his last monies to trust Civil to help him blow up, and he hoped to invest in himself with the help of her business acumen.
“Smh, I was broke and down on my last leg, bruh. That 60k was literally my last effort to help me get on, and you stole that from me when my son was born. The media protects you, but wrong is wrong. At this time, I had like 5k followers. What you thought I wasn’t gon pop @KarenCivil?”
Once the rapper went public with the allegations, various people came out of the woodwork claiming that they had issues with Civil as well.
In 2016, Dipset’s Cam’ron accused the hip hop publicist of scamming “Murph” out of 60 large. At the time, Cam’ron was criticized for calling her out.
The always petty emcee took to his Instagram for an “I told you so” moment after others seemingly proved what he said five years ago.
“Y’all gonna apologize or Nah?! I figured y’all wouldn’t 🤷🏾♂️ For those that don’t understand, I told people Karin civil been robbing people, they said I was lying. Now she just lost a court case to another female. Now they say Karin is foul. When I said it…I was hating.. she also robbed Joyner Lucas for the same exact amount she did my guy @darealdukedagod 60k.. what a co-winky-dink.”
Twitter users blew up with Cam’ron’s response to the ruckus.
Others also had advice for people in the business.
Civil had been accused of getting artists’ records played on the radio for a fee– but not keeping up her end of the deal.
There were also allegations of payola and payouts to shut down people’s social media sites and websites, including Jason Lee and Rolling Ray. Civil allegedly admitted to getting Lee’s website hacked.
Even problematic D-lister Jessie Woo tagged herself into the debacle.
On September 16, Woo aired out Civil’s alleged fraudulent behavior on Instagram by posting a court document where she reportedly sued the New Jersey native.
“Earlier this year, @KarenCivil fake booked me using a nonexistent company in order to obtain personal information, served me with an extortion case for the sum of 3 Million Dollars at the fake booking and had it recorded it order to pass the video around the industry with the goal to embarrass & intimidate me,” she wrote. “Today, ahead of our hearing, The Superior Court of California sided with me. I want to thank my attorneys Amanda & Billie. I stand by the court’s decision, and I look forward to my check being cut by Ms. UnCivil. Her LIVE today, where she pressed about “Haitian Women Empowerment,” was no coincidence. She’s a loser in real life and in court. She lost. She’s scrambling. Run me my coins
@KarenCivil.”Woo continued her explanation, writing, “Often times people go silent in this industry because they cannot afford to defend their factual truth. Keep this in mind before you attack the underdog. She thought I wouldn’t defend myself. I am a master’s degree holder from @fiuinstagram! My undergrad is in political science & journalism. My master’s is in strategic communications. I had every intention of going to law school, BUT BAYBAAAAYYYY, that damn LSAT wasn’t my ministry. 😩💀 Even if I couldn’t afford my lawyers, I would have stayed up day and night defending myself by drafting my motions. Don’t ever play yourself @KarenCivil. The devil works hard, BUT JESSICA JUSTE WORKS HARDER IN JESUS NAME 💪🏿❤️ #RunMeMyCoins #AllKarensAintWhite Oh! And a special shout out to my honorary lawyer @theakg for always steering me legally 🤟🏿”
Civil didn’t acknowledge the other allegations, but she did respond to Lucas via Baller Alert.
“It’s easy for him to make broad statements when you aren’t familiar with the backend of business, especially Marketing. Subcontractors were paid, including Ravenel Agency, PR, and local Reps (mix show/radio). All parties contracted out on his behalf to execute were paid from the overall budget allotted.”
She continued, “When he expressed his unhappiness about not getting VIP access to a NY NBA2K event because he arrived 2 1/2 hours prior to the time he was given.”
“Him not being able to reach me the following day during a scheduled personal vacation cause him to be irate. His MGMT called me to rectifying the situation after Joyner made his first tweet claims, in which I responded we can happily move forward after a public apology was made since he used that same platform to lie about funds being taken from him. I recorded the call just for future circumstances like this,” Civil added.
We hope all of this gets cleared up sooner rather than later. Whew!
