Known for her fit body, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry recently revealed that she’s been following a keto diet for 30 years. Saying that it helped her manage her type 2 diabetes, control acne and provide other health benefits, Berry also claimed that the low-carb lifestyle has overall provided her with “more energy and better mental performance.”
The Boomerang star spoke with Insider about the decades-long keto journey, saying, “Because I’m diabetic, nutrition has been a big part of my life. For the past almost 30 years, I have been following the ketogenic lifestyle.”

At age 22, Berry was officially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Referring to it as a “moment she’ll never forget,” the 54-year-old told Insider, “I had to respin the way I lived my life and have carried that with me ever since.”
In 2017, she discussed her keto diet on Live With Kelly and Ryan.
“I’m diabetic. And a ketogenic diet is no sugar, no carbs. Nothing white,” Berry said. “And the idea of it is you don’t eat sugar, and you train your body to burn healthy fats. So I eat healthy fats all day long: avocado, oil, coconut oil, butter.”
Berry also got candid in a 2018 Instagram post, where she spoke in-depth about the health benefits she’s received from following the diet.
“Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously. So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet,” she wrote.

“The keto lifestyle offers so many benefits such as weight loss, (moms that’s how we get rid of our baby bellies), appetite control, more energy and better mental performance,” Berry continued, adding “If you’re like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you’ll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne if that’s an issue. And it even helps control migraines!”
An avid exercise and fitness lover, the mother of two recently teamed up with her trainer, Peter Lee Thomas, to launch free workouts on the FitOn app. The partnership will feature at-home workouts from Berry herself and include “martial arts-inspired exercises, plyo and more.”
