Haitian Singer Mikaben’s Life Celebrated At A Memorial Service In Miramar, Florida

The life of Haitian musician Mikaben—Michael Benjamin—was celebrated Sunday at the Miramar Cultural Center.

Family, friends, fans and other musicians gathered inside and outside the auditorium wearing all white. The memorial service was live-streamed outside for those without a place to sit inside since every seat was filled. In addition to the white clothing, yellow and white balloons waved outside, along with mini Haiti flags.

Mikaben died on Oct. 15 in Paris during a performance at the Carimi concert. A video showed the singer walking backstage and collapsing. Per Sis2Sis, the singer died from cardiac arrest despite help from emergency personnel.

Haitian musicians and friends performed some of Mikaben’s original pieces and gospel songs like “Take me to the King” by Tamela Mann. When his pregnant wife arrived on stage, she thanked everyone for their “positivity and prayers.” She then decided to speak about how they met and their dating life.

They first saw each other at a party that he performed at. After she left the party, Mikaben made it his mission to find her and bring her into his life. After several months, the two became close to the point where he was asking her to do his laundry and leave some of his stuff with her while he was traveling for performances.

Benjamin mentioned that when she gave him a piece of her mind and told him that it wouldn’t work out since she wanted a more normal life with kids and marriage, he said she was his “last stop.”

Benjamin read to the audience the words of affirmation she and the singer read every morning.

“I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, and I am conscious of the lessons he offers me,” she read at the service. “I’m the rock of faith for my family and all of those who follow me. My life is full of joy, love and passion. And I’m excellent at maintaining enthusiasm in everything that I do. I am…the most prolific music producer in the entire world. As my creations are topping billboards, digital streaming and radio charts, I bring a sense of serenity and lots of positivity to my family. Our common goals are aligned to fulfill our heavenly father’s will and desires through our life’s achievements.

“Today, I’m balancing my time between personal refinement, inspiring others, and creating memories with my family and friends. I expose the greatness in others and shine my light on it for others to see. I’m a wise steward of the incredible wealth I was given. Today, I show gratitude for my healthy body by eating the most nutritious foods and demanding greater strength, speed and stamina. I have a hunger for the truth, and I have the discipline to study from the greatest minds. I’ve been called to lead millions to spiritual, political and financial freedom. I’m living for full success, and I’m willing to pay full price.”

Mikaben is known for songs like “Marry Me,” “Fè Lapli,” “Ou pati,” and “Fanm Sa a Move.” The Haitian musician was signed to Warner Music France.
