Completing a lengthy assignment for graduation is something many college students have in common. But, for Yara Shahidi, finishing a 136-page thesis calls for a celebration.

The 22-year-old Grown-ish star is one step closer to graduating from Harvard. She posted a video to her Instagram account last week as she announced the completion of her thesis. 

“Weighing in at 32,508 words and 136 pages, is this thesis writer, Yara Sayeh Shahidi! Let’s gooooo!” the actress said in the 16-second clip while wearing a Harvard crewneck.

“YOUR FAVORITE THESIS WRITER IS OFFICIALLY DONE WRITING✨💪🏽TRY NOT TO BE INTIMIDATED BY MY STATS 😤

#ThesisComplete #Harvard #classof2022 #LESSSGOOO !!” she said in the caption.

Celebrities, fans, and followers flooded the 22-year-old’s comment section as they congratulated Shahidi on her accomplishment.

One commenter said, “Harvard girls do it best!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ so proud of you, my girl!!”

“I am so very proud of you!!!!❤️” Yvette Nicole Brown said in the comments.

Shahidi’s father, Afshin, commented, “🔥Delivering knock out after knock out 🔥,” to which she responded, “@afshinashahidi 🤎☺️ thank you, Baba.”

In 2018, the actress shared her goals and what she wanted to accomplish while attending Harvard University. She said she planned to double major in interdisciplinary sociology and African-American Studies.

“I’ve wanted to be a history professor for longer than I’ve wanted to be an actress,” the actress said while appearing on

Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “And so I used to have the Harvard webpage up, and I’d go through the course catalog. So, needless to say, this is something I’ve been planning for a long time.”

Since she was accepted to the Ivy League school in 2017, the actress has always taken her studies seriously. In September 2021, Shahidi revealed that she had a curfew while attending the 73rd annual Emmy Awards. People Magazine reported that she requested to present an award earlier in the night to make it back in time to attend her college class.

“I do fly out tonight to make it to class in time,” Shahidi told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

She presented the second award of the night to Brett Brett Goldstein, who won best supporting actor in a comedy series. 

“The lovely people at the Academy really helped me out because I was like, ‘Guys, I have a hard out to make this flight,’” she added.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shahidi said that she wanted “to have as much of a college experience as possible,” which is why she “decided to apply in the first place.”
