A grandma and grandson duo from Mississippi impressed Wheel of Fortune hosts and viewers by solving a difficult word puzzle with expert quickness to win $56,950 on a May 23 episode. 

On the Tuesday airing of the Wheel of Fortune new episode in the “Grand Getaways” week, grandma Retta Alexander and her grandson, Julian Hernandez, won out in the previous rounds against the other contestants and made it to the Bonus Round. The Bonus round offered Alexander and Hernandez a chance to win almost 60 grand by solving the iconic format of a word puzzle in only 10 seconds. The question’s answer was under the “Place” category, and the spaces showed that it included two words. They received the letters A, N, C, T, and E in the order of  “_ANC_ _ _ _ T _ _ _E.”

The Wheel of Fortune host, Pat Sajak, told the pair, “Well, there’s two of you. Feed off each other. It’s a place. You have 10 seconds. Talk it out. Good luck,”

Once the time started, Alexander shockingly didn’t hesitate before shouting out the correct answer: “Fancy boutique.”

The audience, host Sajak, and even the co-host Vana White were audibly shocked by how quickly Alexander and Hernandez solved the puzzle right, especially when it was considered to be rather challenging. 

Hernandez celebrated his grandma’s fast reflex in an adorable display of support. He cheered for her and hugged her, both of them grinning in excitement. 

“Nice going, guys, congratulations. That was a good solve,” Sajak complimented. He continued to reveal that they earned $40,000 more for solving the bonus round puzzle in addition to their already acquired funds.

The game show posted a celebratory video to social media, capturing the impressive solve and giving viewers of the show a chance to comment on the grandma and grandson’s win. The Instagram post was captioned, “More letters? Pfft, Retta & Julian don’t need them.”

One Instagram user commented, “One of the sweetest duos I’ve ever seen on Wheel🥰 so so happy for them! They were the pair that we were rooting for at home🥳🤩.”

Another wrote, “That was a great solve. So amazing. I didn’t have a clue,”
