Singer Ashanti seemingly used her vocal talents to respond to Irv Gotti running his mouth proudly about allegedly having an affair with her in the early 2000s.
Since early August, Irv Gotti refused to let the “Foolish” singer be great. While on Drink Champs, the producer gave extra details about how he and Ashanti allegedly having sex inspired him to write her track, “Happy.” He stated he was over the singer while expressing his heartbreak over finding out she was with the “Just a Dream” musician Nelly.
Amid his vocal flaunting about cheating on his wife, Ashanti kept quiet until Sean “Diddy” Combs added her and Yung Miami to the song he did with Bryson Tiller, “Gotta Move On.” He appeared on The Breakfast Club to explain why he wanted her on the remix.
“…I think that music and art…gives you a chance to speak your mind when it comes to the love territory and after I seen Irv do his thing, I was just thinking…sis may want to…express herself on this song,” he told the hosts of the show.
While the actual remix isn’t out on music platforms yet, a clip of Ashanti’s version is available on YouTube, and sis went off.
“It’s giving obsessed / It’s giving you stressed / It’s giving you pressed / It’s giving this n***a missing the best,” Ashanti sang. “But it’s been 20 years, please cry less / We can see you and your tears / The pain in your chest / But I got a new man / Yeah, you gotta move on.”
Ashanti and Diddy had known each other since she was 14 when Diddy discovered and signed her to Bad Boy Records after seeing her sing “Reminisce” by Mary J. Blige. After her deal with Bad Boy fell through, she landed with Jive Records. Following her departure from Jive Records, she went to Muda Inc Records, co-founded by Irv.
