Geto Boys’ Willie D Mad About Being Excluded From Grammys’ Tribute Performance For Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary

Geto Boys member Willie D expressed his disappointment in not receiving an invitation to perform at the Grammys tribute performance to Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary. The only Geto Boys member included was Scarface.

“A reminder to the Grammys and all the rest of y’all out there trying to hustle the Geto Boys brand by only including Scarface, who had a stellar solo career,” Willie D began in a video posted to Instagram on Sunday. “How in the hell are you gonna have a 50-year tribute to Hip Hop and not include Geto Boys, the group?”

He added, “If you forgot, the group includes Scarface and Willie D.”

Geto Boys original members consisted of Willie D, Scarface and Bushwick Bill. Bill died on June 9, 2019, after getting diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

“How you gonna use a performance that includes a song that I co-wrote but not even have the decency, the respect to reach out to me and ask me if I wanted to participate? Y’all are some clowns for that. All the way out of pocket. Whoever made the call, y’all some clowns… No more talking.”

The Hip Hop tribute performance united some of the most prominent names in Hip Hop history, like Run-DMC, GrandMaster Flash & The Furious Five, Missy Elliott, Public Enemy, Salt n Pepa, Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J. They also brought out today’s rappers like Lil Uzi Vert, GloRilla, and Lil Baby.

Before the tribute began, LL Cool J apologized to the audience that they couldn’t include everyone in the Hip Hop community.
