Tennis champion Naomi Osaka was named the highest-paid athlete by Forbes Magazine for the second year in a row.
Not only was she named the highest-paid female athlete – but Osaka also earned more than every male athlete in the world except for Swiss tennis star Roger Federer. Federer has been the highest-paid tennis player for 16 years in a row.
The 24-year-old tennis champion has lucrative sponsorship deals with Levi’s, Nike, Louis Vuitton, Autograph, Sweetgreen and more. Osaka earned around $55 million in 2020, including income from several businesses the champion launched.
The four-time Grand Slam champion has her own skincare line for women of color called KINLÒ. Osaka also has a popular handbag collection with Strathberry.
According to Forbes, the ten highest-paid female athletes in the world earned $167 million before taxes combined last year, which is a 23 percent increase from 2020. Forbes noted that most of the growth was made by Serena Williams and Osaka. Osaka reportedly earned $57.3 million, while Williams came in second, earning $45.9 million in 2021.
The tennis icon also appears content with her personal life and recently shared pictures of her boyfriend, musician Cordae, on Instagram with a sweet caption.
“Getting closer to someone and seeing how much love and dedication they put into their craft is truly inspiring. Makes you feel like some people are born to do certain things, @cordae you’re a star and a light, quite literally brighten up every room you walk in (or maybe it’s your hair lol). Congratulations on your 2nd album, proud of you ❤️ .”
