Twitter went rampant after actress Gabrielle Union shared she and her husband, retired NBA player Dwyane Wade, split their bills 50/50.
Last week, Union was interviewed on Bloomberg’s Idea Generation about her career, family dynamic and activism.
The interviewer asked the actress at one point during the questioning about when she felt secure concerning her career, meaning had no worries that her acting jobs would pan out without a hitch.
Union admitted that she still struggled and opened up about the financial pressure she endured.
“I think I just have more responsibilities for my money, so I get nervous like, ‘Oh, God, that move didn’t open. What does that mean? Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?’ And everyone’s like, ‘It’s coming. Calm down,'” Union explained. “I’m trying to find peace in the journey. Not using my anxiety and scarcity mindset to be my engine.”
The Deliver Us From Eva actress resumed, “It’s weird to say I’m head of household because in this household we split everything 50/50, but in the other households that each of us have to support, it puts this…gorilla on your back…’You better work…somebody may not eat.'”
Union’s words didn’t sit right with some Twitter users who claimed the actress, who has a $40 million net worth, was foolish for splitting bills eventually with Wade, who has a $170 million net worth.
IF IF IF…the internet be true, he has over 4x’s her net worth. I speak for myself when I say, I would NOT expect my husband to go 50-50 with me if I have over 4x’s his net worth. He would be one comfortable brother! She should have to pay something, but 50%? Naw. I’m not going pic.twitter.com/jl0i0bHTtv

Others didn’t appreciate that she made it seem like she was living paycheck to paycheck when she was a millionaire.
She makes well over 7 figures the gall to say you may not eat when people work 7 days a week and can barley afford food is very pompous of her she ain’t going miss no meals!

This is sooooo unnecessary. As an independent, career woman, I don’t have a problem with any woman who wants to support herself and contribute to paying bills. However, stop this portrayal as if you’re living paycheck to paycheck! It’s not a good look when hubby’s got mega bank!🤨

Idk how to explain it, but she’s always trying so hard 🥴😬 the more she trys to be relatable, the less she’s likable to me.

Many people claimed she was wrong for splitting the bills evenly with Wade when he got with Basketball Wives reality star Aja Metoyer and ended up having a child with her. However, that happened after he and Union broke up. Plus, people forget that Union confessed she felt entitled to cheat on her ex-husband because she paid all the bills. Union has had this independent woman mindset for a long time, so it’s no surprise she wants to split the bills 50/50. Many commended the actress for sticking with it even while having a husband wealthier than her.
Most relationships work better when it’s 50/50 and both people are putting in the same amount of money and effort. I see nothing wrong with this 🤷♂️

Why are y’all so upset that Gabrielle Union wants to work and be independent?!

Gabrielle Union has always been a grown, independent, and extremely outspoken woman. So the fact some these tweets act like she being forced into a 50/50 with no say is hilarious

people act like gabrielle union murdered her whole family for wanting to remain financially independent like she always was. just say you resent her career and that she and her husband don’t hate their kids like you would.
