Celebrities like to look suitable for cameras, especially for special occasions. And actress Gabrielle Union is no exception since she has been a veteran in the entertainment industry. She made sure her attire and hair are appropriate for the public according to society’s perception of beauty.
Society follows Eurocentric beauty ideals, but Union redefined her definition of beauty and self-love over the years. She has learned how to value and appreciate her melanin skin and natural appearance. Therefore, she introduces this authentic frame of mind to her daughter, Kaavia. Kaavia is the toddler she shares with NBA star Dwayne Wade and her bonus children from Wade’s previous marriage.
“I’m certainly releasing my kids from that (need to appease white beauty standards). I want them to be the best version of themselves without centering Eurocentric beauty ideals and the white gaze,” said Union.
On the Deliver Us From Eva’s star social media pages, she shares pictures smiling and laughing with her toddler. Fans are amazed by Kaavia’s smile; however, others believe she does not care about her daughter’s hair. Union is aware of people’s comments online about her daughter but reminds people that she is also human along with being a celebrity.
“You’ll see her like that on occasion, But regular Kaav is going to run around here during a pandemic after swim class, and it’s going to be what it is. You’ll see her natural curls,” said Union. “You’ll also see that they’re going to be moisturized. That’s more of what I care about, hair health, not the style,” said Union.
