Known for her effortless beauty and ability to rock practically any look, actress Gabrielle Union decided to cut the inches for the summer and showed off her new big chop to her over 18 million Instagram followers Friday. 

Often switching up her hairstyles from ponytails and bobs to updos and braids, the Deliver Us From Eva actress is no stranger to creating a new hair look for herself. Her latest cut, however, frames Union’s face with gorgeous natural curls and coils, which she perfectly paired with a set of gold hoop earrings.

“So, I did a thing,” Union shared on Instagram. Continuing that she didn’t cut her hair out of despair, she added, “The movies always show women cutting their hair when all is lost but I wanted to know the feeling of making a change when things are gravy. It hits different and its foreign to me but I ❤❤❤ this new new. #SummerChop #FlawlessChop #FlawlessCut”

The 48-year-old mother also shared several selfies of herself posing in a black dress and clearly feeling her new hair.
