After one season, the FX network is canceling its latest show, Kindred.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, anonymous sources confirmed that the Disney-sponsored show adapted from novelist Octavia E. Butler’s 1979 novel, “Kindred,” won’t return to the network for another season.
The show debuted on Hulu on Dec. 13, releasing the first season’s eight episodes.
Kindred follows a young Black woman named Dana James (played by Mallori Johnson), an aspiring writer who relocated to Los Angeles. While trying to live on her terms, James finds herself being pulled back and forth from the present to the nineteenth-century plantation. Her mission is to discover secrets bound to her family.
Starring in the show is Johnson (Dana James), Micah Stock (Kevin Franklin), Ryan Kwanten (Thomas Weylin), Gayle Rankin (Margaret Weylin), David Alexander Kaplan (Rufus Welin), Sophina Brown (Sarah), Sheria Irving (Olivia) and Austin Smith (Luke).
While FX canceled the series, the service won’t stop the show’s playwright, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, from attempting to get the series on other streaming services or networks. The outlet reported that it was rare for FX to swiftly cancel a show, especially since the CEO, John Landgraf, typically has the patience to get shows to improve methodically and slowly.
In response to Kindred‘s cancellation, Twitter users expressed their frustration for not allowing the show’s creators to close up some loose ends.
Kindred being cancelled is absolute bullshit

So FX/Hulu cancelled Kindred. This is why I wish shows like that just give us all they have in the first season. Now we’re left without closure and with Kevin being stuck in the past when that’s the one thing he asked Dana not to do, leave him.
