Dwayne Wade’s Ex-Wife Objects To Daughter Zaya’s Gender Change, Finds Loophole in Divorce Agreement

NBA star Dwayne Wade’s ex-wife, Siovaughn Funches-Wade, has objected to their daughter Zaya’s gender change.

Radar Online reportedly obtained Dwayne and Siovaughn’s 2011 divorce agreement stipulating that the sports player needs approval from his ex regarding Zaya’s health.

Despite the stipulation being written in the arrangement agreement, it didn’t state that Siovaughn had the right to object to Dwayne’s decision. However, as a concerned mother, she chose to do so anyway.

The divorce agreement requirement states that the 40-year-old should discuss and obtain input from his ex, regarding “the major decisions affecting the care, welfare, activities, health, education, and religious upbringing of their two children.”

Yet, signed paperwork indicates that Dwayne should keep his former wife aware of “all doctors, nurses, health care providers, and mental health providers treating the minor children whether on a continuing basis or in connection with an isolated issue.”

The former NBA star also disclosed in the legal documents that his daughter has self-identified as Zaya since 12 years of age. Allowing the change on her birth certificate would allow her to live a more comfortable and honest life.

“Siohvaughn’s allegations are libelous at their core, and are, at best, nonsensical,” his documents read. “Dwyane filed this Petition because Zaya asked him to. It is unclear if Siohvaughn’s goal is to relitigate her divorce and custody dispute with Dwyane, or to resume her campaign of personal attacks against Dwyane, but it is clear that her objections have little, if anything, to do with Zaya’s best interest.”

It’s up to a judge to determine if Siohvaughn can stop Zaya from changing her name legally.
In November, Sis2Sis reported that she initially objected to the NBA Hall Of Famer’s petition to legally change their 15-year-old’s name due to “multiple factors,” the Blast reported. In it, the concerned mom accused Dwyane of exploiting Zaya for money and asked a judge to postpone her sex change until she was 18.

“I have concerns that (Dwyane) may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies,” she said in the filing.
