Kelis went viral again, and not for music. The 43-year-old chef and artist had an invasive encounter while on a trip to Singapore.
On October 21, Kelis posted a video on Instagram that showed her and an unidentified woman sitting at a table in what appeared to be an open-air eatery in the Asian nation.
“I don’t even know what to say here. Happy freedom Friday, fam! New Gold mine boxes dropping today. Turn notifications on !!! These go fast. Bountyandfull.com #beyondorganic #mealk”

Two Singaporean women approached the “Bossy” singer, seemingly mesmerized by her uber-long twists, and without asking, began pawing at her hair. The women didn’t realize they were being filmed. The Singaporeans conversed among themselves, admiring her luxurious tresses, disregarding Kelis. The gracious artist, although appalled, remained calm during the interaction.
When the woman in yellow realized Kelis’ friend was recording, she looked embarrassed and stopped touching her twists. Her homegirl with the bob continued petting her hair as if she was an exhibit at the zoo. The “Milkshake” singer stares into the camera and then turns around to acknowledge the intrusive women. As the Singaporeans smiled, Kelis returned the favor in a nice-nasty clap back by gently tugging at the bobbed woman’s hair.
She turned back to the camera as her friend continued recording.
In the background, a woman told Kelis to “embrace it.”
“Oh, I like to be touched,” she said sarcastically.
Fans responded to the singer’s experience in Singapore.
One person said, “Lawdtlol. I want to excuse some of it too, but you can’t even go and touch museum pieces like that…I mean, what wld make you think it’s okay in any circumstance to touch a stranger.”
Someone else wrote, “I’m glad you grabbed her hair, but clearly, they didn’t understand how ridiculous it is to touch a stranger.”
