Donnell Jones Wants To Battle Joe In ‘Verzuz’: “He’s Worthy”

R&B singer Donnell Jones said he would go up against fellow R&B singer Joe in a Verzuz battle because “he’s worthy,” via an Instagram post.

Donnell took to Instagram on June 27 to share his thoughts on the popular music battle series and told his followers that Joe would be the only musician he’d compete with.

“Let’s talk about Verzuz. It’s only one person that I want to see. They gotta have uptempos. They gotta have ballads. They gotta have the whole sh*t. You know what I’m saying?” he said. “And it’s only one person that I want to see [and] that’s Joe,” he said. “The truth is that he’s worthy, so worthy.”

He added that if he battled Joe in a Verzuz, it would be a drama-free competition as some of the series’ matchups in the past were a bit hostile.

“It’s going to be some grown man sh*t. No disrespect, just love. That’s what we do. We show each other love. We ain’t on that bullsh*t [that] these young n****s [are] on, like that disrespectful sh*t. Come on, let’s go!”

Donnell’s sentiments arrived just a few days after ’00s R&B singers Omarion and Mario went toe-to-toe in a highly anticipated Verzuz battle on June 23 in Los Angeles. The live event included a pre-show where four other millennial R&B singers, Ray J, Bobby Valentino, Pleasure P, and Sammie, competed against each other. Naturally, video clips of the show went viral, as some of the artists were very aggressive towards one  another. Mario, in particular, showed his bravado the entire night, which had Black Twitter saying that he possibly won over Omarion.

Both Donnell and Joe were staples in the R&B music scene during their heydays in the ’90s and in the ’00s. Donnell made his debut in 1996 with the album My Heart, whereas Joe, on the other hand, made his debut three years prior in 1993 with the album Everything.
