Disney Releases Trailer For ‘The Little Mermaid’ With Halle Bailey As Ariel

On Friday, September 9, Disney released the teaser for the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, with singer Halle Bailey starring as Ariel in the leading role.

Donning long red locs, the preview shows Bailey as Ariel swimming under the sea, passing sea life and the remnants of a sunken ship to show off Disney’s special effects and set design. The Disney song “Part of Your World” plays as the trailer shows Flounder and Ariel rising to the surface before finally letting Bailey flex her vocals on one of the film’s most iconic songs.

According to the cast list released prior to the trailer’s release, the main cast is occupied by well-known stars. Daveed Diggs plays Sebastian, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder – with Halle Bailey as the leading role.

One half of the musical duo, Chloe x Halle, posted a heartfelt message to Instagram after filming for the movie, urging people to come to see the film once it was released.

“And just like that..that’s a wrap ❤️after auditioning for this film when I was 18, just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when I turned 21 ..we have finally made it…💖 I feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory..it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self-doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end.” She wrote in the caption of the post, she continued, “this experience has made me so much stronger than I ever thought I could be. I’m so grateful to have such lovely and talented people in the cast like

@jonahhauerking, that will be my friend for infinite lifetimes, @jacobtremblay who I’m so proud of 🥺and legends like @bardemantarctic @melissamccarthy @awkwafina @daveeddiggs who are masters of their craft but are so welcoming and open to little old me..as well as to the rest of the beautiful cast and crew. I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood, sweat and tears). Lol, thank you, sardinia, for a wonderful ending!!!” Bailey thanked those in the main cast with her.
