Diddy Set To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award At 2022 BET Awards

Grammy and NAACP Award-winning music mogul and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 BET Awards.

According to reports, BET announced the big news via their Twitter page on June 13.

“TURN YOUR FREQUENCY UP! #CulturesBiggestNight just got BIGGER. @Diddy will be receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 #BETAwards #BET,” they tweeted.

The 22nd annual award show, hosted by Golden Globe Award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson, is scheduled to air on Jun 26. The ceremony will occur at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Calif.

“Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, achieving unprecedented heights, blazing new trails, and, in so doing, raising the bar for all of us,” BET CEO Scott Mills said about Combs. “His virtuosity is matched only by his range – from music to media, culture, business, and philanthropy – Diddy has exemplified Black Excellence. We are delighted to have this opportunity to use our biggest stage to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of our friend Diddy.”

BET Awards Executive Producer, Jesse Collins, added that the 52-year-old’s “contributions to culture transcend hip-hop.”

“Puff’s contributions to culture transcend hip-hop. Growing up in DC, I watched his rise at Howard University as he repped Black excellence from day one,” Collins said. “It’s an honor to celebrate him now while he is still on his incredible journey.”

Executive Vice President, Specials, Music Programming and Music Strategy At BET, Connie Orlando, inserted that Combs’ latest award “further cements” his impact on hip-hop and pop culture at large.

“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is an incomparable cultural force and creative visionary whose impact has created historic paradigm shifts across music, media, fashion, and lifestyle,” Orlando said. “Through the decades, [he] has laid the blueprint for Black excellence through entertainment…And it is far from over; his legacy continues to break ground, and this Lifetime Achievement Award further cements his undeniable influence on hip hop and pop culture.”

Combs has been a cultural staple since the 1990s. He founded the legendary music label Bad Boy Records, launched the careers of many famous artists, including the late great Biggie Smalls, started the urban clothing line Sean John, founded Ciroc liquor and created the Revolt network.

He recently made a hilarious appearance as a guest on City Girls rapper Yung Miami’s new talk show, Caresha Please, which airs via Revolt.
