Destiny James, who was featured in Drake’s “God’s Plan” video where she received a $50,000 scholarship, is graduating May 15, with her master’s degree in Public Health in Health Behavior from the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, according to The Shade Room.
“Public health has been a passion of mine since 2016 when my dad passed from stage 4 lung cancer,” James told the outlet.
“Obtaining this degree is something I will always be proud of! The obstacles I was able to overcome fueled my fire, and I am so proud to say I am now a graduate of the #1 ranked public school for public health in the country,” she added.
Destiny studied at the University of Miami in 2015 and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree.
She appeared in Drake’s video for ‘God’s Plan’ in February 2018.
Her part in the video is short and intertwined with solo scenes of Drake rapping and scenes of grocery donations. James is seen sitting on a wall ledge, looking straight ahead and smiling for the camera, while Drake is seen coming down a flight of stairs behind her.
Surprised, she hugged the rapper, and they are seen holding an extra-large $50,000 check labeled “University of Miami Scholarship.”
The last scene shows James smiling, sighing a breath of relief for having received the generous scholarship.
In 2019, she pursued her master’s at the University of North Carolina, and on Tuesday, she shared her graduation photos on Instagram.

“4 days until I am officially UNC Alum,” she added.
Drake later commented under her post and said, “LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DES.”
