Thanks to the publicity of comedian Dave Chappelle’s attack, investigators reportedly were able to solve another crime that occurred in December 2021. According to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Isaiah Lee was charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing his former roommate.

“The publicity generated by the attack on Mr. Chappelle helped police solve this crime,” District Attorney George Gascón said. “The incident that occurred at the Hollywood Bowl was misdemeanor conduct and rightfully referred to the City Attorney’s Office. Based on the nature and severity of the December attack, Mr. Lee is now facing felony charges which my office will prosecute.”

According to the report, the December incident occurred between Lee and the former roommate at a transitional housing apartment. The two engaged in a fight, resulting in Lee trying to murder the victim by knife. The former roommate’s identity has not been revealed.

The 23-year-old pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court on Thursday.

As previously reported by Sis2Sis, Chappelle fell victim to another of Lee’s ferocious attacks earlier this month when he was accosted on stage while finishing his comedy set at the Hollywood Bowl. Lee ran on stage as the comedian performed, yielding a weapon that replicated a handgun with a knife blade attached. Chappelle’s security team and the venue’s guards were able to capture the 23-year-old before any real damage could happen. While detained, Lee was treated for the injuries he sustained from a backstage beatdown.

Regarding Chappelle’s attack, Lee faces four misdemeanor charges, and he has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. Lee’s lawyer, Chelsea Padilla, told a magistrate that her client received psychiatric help from a local nonprofit organization.

The December incident is still under investigation, and Chappelle’s case.
