Lord have mercy! Hillsong, New Jersey, pastor Darnell Barrett has resigned after being exposed for devilish behavior through a selfie.

The 32-year-old pastor sent a few text messages in a group text of his “friends” talking about how he battled depression and anxiety the day before long enough to work out. Sounds benign enough, right? Barrett also decided to attach the obligatory photo of himself at the gym shirtless and in his white spandex tights. However, the photo also included a not-so inconspicuous shot of his bulging “muscle.”  

Of course, this story is as basic as Red Lobster until the word “married” is added. Barrett is married with two children. He “accidentally” added a church volunteer to his group of close friends, and she received the post-workout selfie.

Barrett sent a follow-up text to the volunteer that said, “Hey! I think I might’ve added you to my close friends’ list by accident. I’m so sorry. Trying to figure out how the hell to edit it.” 

Okay, sir.

The volunteer tried to play it off first but then sent him a scathing text letting him know she peeped the nonsense and was not the one. The anonymous woman also said Barrett had reached out to her earlier this year and said he was traveling to Austin, where she lives. He wanted “suggestions” on where to stay and preferred that the location be “isolated” and “scenic.” The former pastor said that he had no ill intentions when he asked about where to stay in Austin.

Why he didn’t use, Google is unknown.

The wayward pastor told the Daily Mail that he did send the photos and had already resigned by the time they reached out to him. He also said that he and his wife are trying to deal with his “infidelity.” He claimed he wanted to move forward, but the media continuing to report on him will likely make his attempts to reconcile with his wife harder.

The media didn’t tell him to bless the people with a selfie of his junk, though. Barrett had been a member of Hillsong for years, served as a senior pastor, and became creative director in 2019.

This foolishness comes several months after Carl Lentz, another pastor at the Hillsong megachurch franchise, was fired for “moral failures.”

That’s Christian slang for cheating or other unholy penile activity. Lentz famously baptized Justin Bieber and was known for bringing other celebrities into the fold. 

Certainly, the pioneers of the early church are rolling in their graves. With summer just around the corner, which holy man will “resign” next?
