Verzuz may be getting a shake-up. Comedian Damon Wayans has challenged Dave Chappelle to a comedy-centered battle.
On The Box morning radio station in Houston, Texas, Wayans issued a direct challenge to Chappelle last Friday.

One of the DJs asked Wayans if he would do a battle if they featured comedians. After finding out what Verzuz is, Wayans said he would be up for it, and he chose Chapelle as his opposition.
“Chappelle,” he said. “I’m calling him out!”
Both Wayans and Chappelle are talented comedians in their own right.
Damon Wayans is a member of the renowned comedy family, the Wayans, who gave 80s and 90s babies– In Living Color, a sketch comedy show. The program ran from 1990-1994 and introduced the world to talents, Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. The show is also responsible for J. Lo’s career.
Dave Chappelle is known for the type of comedy that would make certain people clutch their pearls and, these days, offend just about every single sub-demographic that exists. His show, Chappelle’s Show, ran from 2003-2006. He abruptly quit the show partly due to his desire to spend more time with his family.
While the men’s public comedy sets tend to have a distinct tenor, with Chappelle’s being a little more provocative than Wayans’, the competition aspect would be icing on a cake that would be sure to please.
Verzuz was created by Swizz Beats and Timbaland during the 2020 quarantine to keep us from going stir crazy. It has provided delightful moments of amusement, confusion, and nostalgia.
Honestly, a comedy Verzuz is not a bad idea. We could all use a breather from Jim Jones falling off the stage and then pretending like he didn’t at the last Verzuz.
Verzuz creators have not responded.
