Da Brat is pregnant with her first child.Â
The 48-year-old Chicago rapper made the announcement on Tuesday via social media and in an exclusive with People Magazine.Â
Brat dropped a photo of herself showing off a growing pregnant belly and rocking Chicago Bulls drip. The glowing emcee wrote a short caption that read, âBLESSINGS all 2023 â€ïžâ€ïžâ€.â
Â
She also thanked Hope Fertility in the post. Dr. Obehi Asemota founded the âboutique fertility clinicâ in Metro Atlanta.
Brat told People Magazine about her pregnancy, saying, âItâs been quite a journey. Thereâs a lot of stuff we learned about women over the age of 40.
The âThatâs What Iâm Looking Forâ rapper and her
wife of one year, Jessica Harris-Dupart, 41, began exploring options to grow their family shortly after they married in February 2022. Sheâs almost five months pregnant and is glowing.âIt started as a joke; we were like, âWeâre extending our family!â But then we got a huge response. It was like, âOh my God do we want to actually have kids, and if we do, girl, we better hurry up!'â
Da Brat said motherhood âwasnât in the cardsâ for her, and Jessica already had three children from a prior relationship. But the hard-nosed femcee had a change of heart after falling in love and marrying her mogul wife.
âI never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasnât in the cards for me. Iâve had a great career, a full life. I felt like because I didnât get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasnât going to happen for me. I started looking at life so differently. I was like; I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally.â
Da Brat wasnât sure if she wanted to be pregnant.
âI was like, nothingâs gonna come out of me!âÂ
âWe had a little tug-o-war initially, but I felt like she should have the experience. She is so nurturing,â Jessica said, gushing about her wifeâs ânurturingâ nature.
The coupleâs journey to parenthood has had its share of bumps along the way. Jessica and her wife underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) in June.Â
During a June appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, the couple discussed the difficult road Jessica faced after having eggs implanted inside the 41-year-old mother of threeâs uterus.Â
âWe havenât spoken about it much on social media because we have had some ups and some downs on our journey â some complications, but we are still in the process. âI was hospitalized with blood clots,â Jessica said, explaining her and Bratâs challenges to the showâs hostess. âWe want a baby together.âÂ
Â
âWe are NOT stopping our journey; we are not discouraged. No matter the ups and downs, NO matter the adversity, we will see this through. Thanks to all those that have supported us in the process, and just know we will have a great testimony through this. IVF can be stressful, but the reward will be worth it all,â Jessica wrote on Instagram.
She ultimately suffered a miscarriage.
We hope Da Bratâs pregnancy goes well, and we wish the couple the best for the little bun in the oven.
