Coronji Calhoun Sr., Child Actor Who Played Halle Berry’s Son In ‘Monster’s Ball’, Dead At Age 30

Known for his portrayal of Tyrell Musgrove, the son of Halle Berry’s character in Monster’s Ball,

Coronji Calhoun Sr. died at 30-year-old last month, according to WWL-TV, with his mother listing congestive heart failure and lung issues as the cause. He is remembered by his 10-year-old son, as well as many other family members and friends.

Calhoun also worked alongside Billy Bob Thornton, Heath Ledger, and Sean Combs in the 2001 film, leading to Berry’s first Academy Award for Best Actress win. Only 10-years-old at the time of filming, the former child actor hasn’t

appeared in any other acting roles since WWL-TV reported.

According to the news outlet, Calhoun didn’t have any life insurance before his death on Oct. 13, so his family opted to set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral and burial costs. Over $10,000 has been raised from 74 donors on the online fundraiser, with Berry and filmmaker Lee Daniels

offering the top donations of $3,394.

“On behalf of the Calhoun and Bailey family, I would like to thank each and every individual who found it in their hearts to extend the much-needed financial support to lay Coronji Sr. to rest,” his mother Theresa Bailey said in a recent update on the platform.

While the financial burden has been lifted, we still mourn the loss of my son. As we close this chapter, we ask that in your remembrance of him, you remember to love your neighbor as yourself because that is what Coronji did for his entire community.”

Calhoun’s family remembers the Louisiana native as a “loving father, son, brother, cousin and friend to his community.”
