Coolio passed away on Wednesday.
TMZ reported the 59-year-old rapper’s manager, Jarez, confirmed his death on Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles. Coolio, born Artis Leon Ivey, Jr., was found in a friend’s bathroom after using the facilities. After being gone for an undisclosed extended period, the friend became concerned and called out to the rapper. When the Los Angeles-based rapper didn’t answer, the unidentified person went to check on the “Fantastic Voyage” emcee and found him unresponsive.
Paramedics were called, but the rapper had already passed away at the scene. Emergency workers suspect that Coolio had a heart attack, but a coroner will confirm. According to TMZ, police are also investigating.
Coolio was a six-time Grammy-nominated artist. He won one Grammy for his 1997 record-breaking hit “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
The proud Compton native’s last post to Instagram was four days ago. He still rocked his iconic braids and baseball hat in the video.
