A popular cosmetics brand is under fire for not crediting a Black beauty influencer with a makeup look it recreated for a paid influencer campaign.

The ColourPop campaign specifically referenced Naezrah’s bright-colored eyes makeup look she shared with her fans and followers on Instagram.

She even posted a tutorial of the look for her fans to recreate.

ColourPop reportedly recreated the look for their paid influencer campaign, but the company credited and paid a white beauty influencer.

On May 12, a fellow beauty influencer that goes by the alias @blondetaki went off on Twitter to bring this issue to people’s attention.

In a Twitter thread, she writes with a photo of the paid ad in question, “Confused as to why colourpop hired creators to use @Naezrah’s look for paid Ads instead of hiring and paying her?”

She compared several looks from Naezrah, which were recreated without her being credited.

She also shared how “disappointed” she was in the brand but “unfortunately not surprised this happened.” She noted, I just think @ColourPopCo should pay the OG creator and the other ADs need to be removed.

I understand this happens to a lot of black creators and I’m so sorry.”

Seeing the traction on the post, Naezrah responded by saying, “and I wasn’t even tagged.”

She continued, “I’ve seen people try and discredit my signature, and I’ve been doing this type of stuff from the beginning of my makeup journey. I have looks that date back to 2018 (and prior to makeup posting ) of me doing colored undereyes.”

On May 13, Naezrah said she had a call with ColourPop to address her concerns.

The call must have gone well because Naezrah shared an update that she will be working on sponsored content with the company moving forward.
