The City Girls have been taking a small break from music over the past few months. But that didn’t stop them from delivering on their fan-favorite twerk anthem “Twerkulator.” Following the bop going viral on TikTok, City Girl’s JT and Yung Miami officially dropped the song on streaming platforms and YouTube on Friday at midnight.
Yung Miami and JT teased the release of their hit song earlier this week with a daring photo shoot. Dressed in a black bustier with matching leggings, the pair bent over and showed off their extra-long hot pink nails for the song’s cover art. Their official YouTube release of the song shows behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot.
Ready to take over the summer, Yung Miami posted a photo of herself and JT from the photoshoot, captioning it “#CityGirlSummer starts tonight!” Though the City Girls have recently been featured on Moneybagg Yo’s “Said Sum Remix” and also collaborated with Kash Only for “Throat Baby (Go Baby),” Yung Miami and JT haven’t released a song of their own since their June 2020 album City on Lock.

“Twerkulator” was actually meant to debut on the album last year. Yung Miami told Nylon Magazine in 2020 that it was meant to be their “hit song,” and was leaked along with their other tracks prior to the release of City on Lock. Due to an issue with clearing the African Bambaataa sample, they ultimately decided to sit on the song.
Needless to say, fans were more than ready for the official release of the summer twerk anthem.
“Twerkulator only being 2 minutes may honestly be the most devastating trauma I’ve ever experienced,” one fan joked on Twitter.
