Dana Chanel is being sued by Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro for defrauding consumers through her Philadelphia companies. In a Nov. 4 press release, Shapiro accused Chanel of using social media to defraud consumers through a credit company and a mobile development app.
Chanel’s mobile development app Alakazam Apps, LLC is co-owned with Chanel’s father, Nakia Rattray, who runs the company with his daughter. Her credit company, Credit Exterminators Inc/Earn Company is co-owned with her sister, Cassandra April Olivera.
According to Shapiro, after one of Chanel’s customers joined Credit Exterminators with the expectation of having her delinquent credit accounts resolved, her wages were garnished. Having paid $2,000.for Chanel’s services, she understandably wanted a refund, which she never received.
“Dana Chanel built a following online by presenting herself as a black woman-owned small business success story,” Shapiro said. “She advertised the products of her companies as a way for other black small business owners to achieve what she did. Then, she ripped off the same community she claimed to care about.”
The lawsuit also recounts one consumer’s experience with Chanel’s mobile development app, Alakazam Apps. After paying $2,000 for a custom app which was never received, the consumer contacted the company repeatedly for a refund, which was never received. The consumer’s calls also went unanswered.
“It’s hard enough these days for workers in Philadelphia,” added Shapiro. “We can’t have bad actors breaking the law and making it even harder for folks to resolve their bad credit or keep their small businesses afloat.”
A Change.org petition was created last year in an attempt to stop Chanel’s alleged scams, and it received more than 2,700 signatures. The petition alleged that Chanel, given name is Casey Olivera, has been hustling consumers for years while masquerading as good Christians.
“Casey Olivera aka “Dana Chanel” and her family have been stealing money from unsuspecting customers for years. They have used the disguise of Christian values to lure in hundreds of unsuspecting supporters,” said the petition.
The petition went on to accuse Chanel and her father of charging folks a monthly fee for services only partially received or not received altogether. Chanel’s companies were also accused in the petition of failing to provide refunds or respond to complaints. The petition called Chanel’s practices despicable, disgusting and shameful, as well as against the law.
“It is astonishing, disgusting, and a shame that this family has been preying on others for so long. With her father, career scammer extraordinaire, ‘Uncle Magic’ (also known as Nakia Rattray) the Hip Hop Magician at the helm of this family, it is clear that Dana is following in her father’s footsteps. What they are doing is unlawful, unethical, and despicable. They must be stopped and we will continue to work to help give a voice to their many victims as well as do our best to stop others from becoming victims!”
It would seem that the Pennsylvania Attorney General agrees with consumers and has encouraged consumers who feel victimized by Chanel’s companies to file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection.
Sis is still doing her hustle on Instagram, though. And with gusto.
