Chico DeBarge Arrested After Police Found Meth & Drug Paraphernalia In His RV

Chico DeBarge, a former member of the popular music family group DeBarge, was arrested earlier this month after police responded to a call about a man in an RV “causing a disturbance,” TMZ reported. After discovering that his motorhome’s registration had expired six months prior, officers opted to impound the RV and allegedly noticed drug paraphernalia and meth while inside.

According to TMZ, The “Rhythm of the Night” singer was taken into custody on

possession of a controlled substance as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Still, it was released after receiving a “promise to appear” citation.

The singer recently lost his older brother Tommy DeBarge in October 2021. A member of the funk group Switch, famously known for their 1979 hit “I Call Your Name,” Tommy was reportedly hospitalized for weeks before passing away at 64-years-old. His family told TMZ last month that he contracted COVID-19 earlier in the year and that he had suffered from both liver and heart disease.

Unfortunately, several members of the DeBarge family have had a complicated history with drugs. Bobby DeBarge, who sang lead for Switch, became

addicted to heroin and was sentenced to five years behind bars related to drug trafficking charges in 1988, the Michigan Chronicle reported. El DeBarge has experienced several run-ins with the law over his alleged drug use, reportedly arrested for cocaine possession in 2001 and crack possession in 2008.

In 2009, Chico released an album titled “Addiction,” likely a nod to his real-life struggle with drugs. After being arrested for drug possession in 2007 and 2019, the 55-year-old spent over a week in jail in January 2021 after police pulled over his vehicle and found meth and heroin on the star, TMZ reported.

When giving police his name, he reportedly told officers at the time that he was his 58-year-old brother James. After being correctly identified, Chico was charged with a DUI, drug possession and false impersonation.
