The drama series Equalizer starring Queen Latifah, has been renewed for seasons three and four at CBS, providing fans with more exciting storylines on Sunday nights.
Thom Sherman, senior executive vice president of programming at CBS Entertainment, explained how the reboot had impacted its viewership with a star-studded cast, production team, and evolved storytelling that combined fiction with real-life issues, Variety reported.
“The Equalizer continues to pack a powerful punch on Sunday nights, and we’re thrilled to have it back for two more seasons,” Sherman said. “The success of ‘The Equalizer’ is due to the sum of its parts – an outstanding cast led by the superb Queen Latifah, plus the exceptional creative team that has continued to evolve their storytelling with a compelling mix of everyday justice, family dynamics and real-world issues that connect and resonate with audiences.”
Latifah spoke with the outlet about her expectations for season three and how the network plans to keep the audience growing.
“[We’re] digesting what worked and what didn’t work because we’ve got some serious fans who love the show,” she says. “We want to make sure that we keep them and build on that audience.”
The network decided to extend the series for two additional seasons after the show averaged more than 9.5 million viewers per episode. Aside from Equilizer, CBS renewed other scripted series such as NCIS, NCIS: Hawaii, NCIS: Los Angeles, Blue Bloods, The Neighborhood, SWAT, and Young Sheldon.
In addition to Latifah’s acting success, she recently announced her return as a COVER GIRL. The Newark native took to Instagram on Monday and shared the news with her followers, per Sis2Sis.
“You know what they say…Once a COVER GIRL, always a COVER GIRL,” she wrote. “It is such an honor to be back with the @COVERGIRL family and be able to work alongside boundary-pushing, diverse, and game-changing women. I am so excited to pick up where we left off and continue to make the beauty industry more inclusive and accessible for all. #COVERGIRLPartner #EasyBreezyBeautiful.”
The 52-year-old explained how excited she was to work for a company that promotes diversity and inclusivity.
“It feels like a full circle moment to be back with my COVER GIRL family. I’m excited to reconnect and collaborate with them once again to bring inclusivity to the forefront every step of the way, from product creation to ad development to product dissemination. I’m excited to be back and look forward to what we can create together!”
