Rapper Cardi B has spoken out against the New York Mayor’s proposed City budget on November 18. Mayor Eric Adams announced a controversial series of cuts that would take hundreds of millions of dollars from schools, libraries, sanitation services, and the NYPD.
According to ABC 7, Adams will be cutting the budget in response to New York’s migrant crisis, and it’s set to go into effect immediately. Amidst the announcement, Cardi B took to Instagram Live to share her thoughts on the new changes. The “Bongos” rapper said, “There’s going to be a $120 million budget cut with schools, with libraries and the cops and the police department, and a $5 million budget cut in sanitation … b****, we are going to be drowning with rats. We’re going to be drowning in f***ing rats.”
The 31 year old New York native expressed her negative opinions for politicians in general. She snapped, “I don’t give a f***, I’m not endorsing no f***ing presidents no more. ‘Cause how is that a hundred million dollar budget cut in New York City for f***ing schools, library, police safety, and sanitation? Yet Joe Biden talking about like, ‘Yeah, we can fund two wars.’ … Motherf***ers talking about ‘We don’t got it’ but ‘We got it,’ like we’re the greatest nation. No, the f*** we’re not. We’re going through some s*** right now.”
She continued her rant, “That’s like a n**** trying to front like, ‘Yeah, I got the money to support two b******,’ but you really don’t. Y’all talk about [how] y’all don’t f***ing make negotiations with the ops but y’all need to sit the f*** down with these people find agreement.”
Cardi acknowledged her position of privilege being famous, but still expressed her concern for her family and friends who were still living in the Bronx and other parts that would be affected by the new policies.
“I’m lucky, I’m blessed, I’m whatever the f***. But what’s gonna happen to my nieces, what’s gonna happen to my nephews, what’s gonna happen to my cousins? My aunts, my friends … that’s living in the hood? I’m from the Bronx, I don’t wanna see my s*** affected … B****, New York is already f***ing super dirty … and we’re gonna get even dirtier with the budget cut.”
Cardi began to list all of the bad things that could happen with the new budget cuts, all of which included less after school activities, less access to childcare, and a rise in crime. She even insinuated that other states could be seeing similar changes in the coming future.
She finished, “I can’t even f***ing explain it. I’m scared to explain things … but the point is, that it’s like we cannot fund these wars … we can barely fund this country. Finish it. Y’all need to finish it. Stop fronting like you got the f***ing money. You don’t got no money, you ain’t got no sugar for your hunnies … These leaders, they don’t have our best interests … I’m always gonna speak for the people.”
She ended the livestream with, “I swear to God, if something happens to me, it’s because I gotta speak the truth. I cannot be f***ing quiet.”
