Cardi B opened up about her struggle with mental health and suicidal thoughts.
On Thursday, the Grammy-winning artist testified in a court hearing over allegations that YouTuber Latasha Kebe, who goes by Tasha K, made false claims about Cardi to her followers on social media and the video-sharing platform, where she has 1 million followers.
In a lawsuit filed in 2019, Cardi’s legal team cited YouTube videos and social media posts, in which Kebe allegedly made false claims to hurt Cardi’s reputation.
In the suit, Kebe is accused of making at least 23 videos in 14 months that featured “false and defamatory statements” about Cardi, including allegations that the star was a prostitute, contracted herpes and used drugs.
In her testimony, Cardi said she had never felt suicidal before Kebe’s claims and that she struggled in her relationship with her husband Offset due to the videos.
“I felt extremely suicidal,” Cardi stated in her testimony. “I felt defeated and depressed, and I didn’t want to sleep with my husband.”
In her testimony, Cardi shared one instance in which she posted a photo on social media showing her kissing her daughter Kulture on the lips. People reportedly asked whether that was appropriate in light of the herpes rumor in the comments. During that period, the mother-of-two said, “I didn’t deserve my kid.”
When asked about her feelings towards Kebe after seeing the YouTuber’s posts about her, the rapper said. “I felt like only a demon could do that sh*t.” She later apologized for her language to those in the courtroom.
She is seeking damages as well as an order for Tasha to “remove in full all defamatory and disparaging statements.”
Since her testimony, fans have poured in with support for Cardi, sending her encouraging messages.
