Cardi B showing her support to fellow Bronx rapper Scar Lip was enough for the up-and-coming artist to break down in tears in a loved filled post.
Known for her hard-hitting lyrics and unique sound, as well as a prominent scar on her upper lip, Scar Lip’s 2018 debut mixtape, “This Is New York,” was a critical and commercial success and a local hit that caught the eye of Cardi B.
Her second mixtape, “The Come Up,” was
released in 2020 and did even better than her already impressive first mixtape. With each mixtape surpassing the next, a feature on Swizz Beatz’s “Take ‘Em Out” alongside Jadakiss and Benny the Butcher, and a new debut album expected in 2023, Scar Lip is certainly a rising star in the hip-hop world.Another two of her most popular songs include “Glizzy Gobbler,” and her appearance on Hot 97 when she aced her “Funk Flex Freestyle” challenge.
Scar Lip, whose real name is Ashley Rodriguez, received a scar from a fight with her older drunk brother. The traumatic experience is somewhat fuels her creative endorser.
On May 1, both female rappers were present at the Met Gala, which is usually an opportunity for musicians to show off their outfits at the benefit event.
When The Neighborhood Talk Instagram page posted a photo of Scar Lip, Cardi B said, “I love her,” and followed up with a repost of the 22-year-old’s outfit.
Scar Lip was so taken aback by Cardi B’s post, she choked up and fell to the floor. For the young Bronx artist, her idol recognized her and her goal was accomplished.
“Cardi B just posted me,” she said in a video. “She inspired me. She from The Bronx, bro. I’m from The Bronx. She showed us young girls we could make it and we could be something, bro. I can’t f**king believe this sh*t. We did it.”
The two emcees are often compared to each other because of their similar styles and backgrounds, but the main difference between them is that Scar Lip’s aggressive attitude is more akin to Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim, as she openly discusses her struggles with poverty and violence.
