Cardi B is one of the hardest-working women in the music industry. So to close out 2021, the “I Like It” rapper was appointed Playboy’s newest creative director in residence for the lifestyle brand.
According to Forbes, Playboy’s Ben Kohn, the CEO of Playboy’s parent, PLBY Group, said many people have gotten it wrong with their views regarding the company. Playboy “is the original lifestyle brand,” but it decided to remain relevant by creating digital content for its website to promote sexual health, wellness, and pleasure. And with that in mind, the company made an announcement Thursday morning: “it’s partnered with multi-platinum superstar recording artist Cardi B to make her the brand’s first-ever creative director in residence,” Forbes reported.
The rapper will share her viewpoints and propose direction across co-branded fashion and sexual wellness merchandise collections. She will provide input for Playboy’s editorial side.
After receiving the news, the 29-year-old described it as a “dream come true” to join the lifestyle brand. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt connected to Playboy,” she said. “It’s truly the original platform for uncensored creativity, and I’m inspired by its incredible legacy of fighting for personal freedoms.”
“I have so many ideas already – I can’t wait!” she added.
She also encourages other creators to join her when the Centerfold platform launches.
“Creators today deserve to express themselves freely and unfiltered,” she said. “They deserve to feel safe in their creativity and sexuality. And they deserve to own their future. This is what Centerfold is all about. For all those creators out there doing bold, revolutionary, truly culture-shifting things, come join me.”
Playboy will also be releasing co-branded merchandise collections that will accelerate to promote direct-to-consumer fashion and sexual wellness businesses, Forbes reported.
