Busta Rhymes Cried Tears Of Joy After Receiving Lifetime Achievement At The BET Awards

Busta Rhymes burst into tears when he received the lifetime achievement award at the BET Awards on June 25.

“So, I’m gonna wear it on my sleeve. I do wanna cry,” he said as the audience applauded; he was so emotional that he used a handkerchief to clear his eyes.

Busta Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor George Smith Jr., 51, talked about how he began his career as a member of Leaders of the New School while mentioning his kids.

“My oldest child was a 3-year-old in the ‘Woo-Hah!!’ video back in ’96. He’s 30. He’s right here,” he said, mentioning that five of his six children attended the awards event.

Busta Rhymes revealed that when Leaders of the New School dissolved, he was apprehensive because he did not want to be a solo artist.

Known for his rapid-fire delivery, energetic performances, and unique vocal style, Busta Rhymes became one of the most prominent and influential figures in hip-hop. He gained commercial success with his debut solo album, “The Coming,” released in 1996. The album featured hit singles such as “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check” and “It’s a Party.”

Part of the rapper success, as described by Busta Rhymes, was how he met other musicians by sneaking into recording studios and asking receptionists who were there to record.

“I would act like I was working in those studio rooms the night before and I forgot something in there. ‘Y’all, I left my rhyme book. I gotta get something. I gotta look for something. Good to see y’all. Can I come through?’” he said.

Outside of the BET Awards Lifetime Achievement, Busta Rhymes has received critical acclaim for his lyrical prowess, innovative music videos, and dynamic stage presence. He has been nominated for numerous awards, including Grammy Awards, and has won several accolades throughout his career. Busta Rhymes continues to release music and remains an influential figure in the hip-hop community.
