Drake is in the big leagues, according to hardcore rapper Rick Ross.
Boss Ross sat with Drink Champ podcast hosts N.O.R.E and Dj EFN to discuss his thoughts on other rappers. The episode aired on Saturday.
When asked to choose between Lil Wayne and Drake, Ross picked Wayne, aka Wheezy. But Ross gave the âGodâs Planâ rapper his props, claiming he was a part of the âtwo percentileâ with him and Jay-Z.
âTwo percentileâ refers to the top rappers who can write music on the spot.
âMe and Drizzy, our relationship most definitely is real close,â Ross said. âImma be honest, I donât know how much music we got because itâs so easy working with the homie. We in the two percentile when it comes to writers and creators. Itâs called the two percentile.â
He explained what he meant, âBut the two percentile is when you walk into the room, you hear something â a beat or a production âthat you actually love and can actually create it, write it and execute it right then. I canât say Iâve done that with many artists. Itâs not even five artists.â
Rick Ross continued, â[Drake]âs in the two percentileâŠme being in the game over 20 yearsâŠAnd Imma be honest, I understand when you working with Rozay, you donât want that type of pressure on you. You come to the studio with me, itâs very few people thatâs comfortable enough to listen to a beat, take my direction from it and create something in that moment, record it right then and stand on it.â
N.O.R.E and DJ EFN agreed that Wheezy could do the same, and Ross agreed. When asked to name another rapper in the two percentile group, he mentioned Jay-Z.
âAnd the reason I take my hat off to HOV, you see me, thatâs my guy,â he said. âHOV, I felt you, n***a. You did it, I got it.â
N.O.R.E asked if he meant on the hot track âGod Did,âÂ
featuring Wheezy, DJ Khaled, Jay-Z, John Legend and Fridayy. Ross declined, clarifying he was referring to the song âFree Mason,â released in 2010.He shared the story of when Jay-Z allowed him to play his âFree Masonâ verse backstage right before he took the stage at Madison Square Garden during his tour. Thatâs when the âN***as in Parisâ hitmaker spit out his verse without needing a second to write it.
