Black News Tonight anchor Marc Lamont Hill is recovering after suffering a mild heart attack a day after surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles.
On September 24, Hill took to his Instagram and shared that he was in the hospital with his followers. Wearing a mask, the 42-year-old media personality said, “Surgery Day. Finally, getting this ruptured Achilles handled. Should be light work… Holla at y’all later!!!”

On September 29, Hill posted on the social media platform again– but this time– the message revealed what happened after the surgery. The Philly native also shouted out his alma mater’s hospital for providing good care for him.
“I am home and recovering after a rough week. After my successful Achilles surgery on Friday, I was rushed to the ER on Saturday after suffering a mild heart attack,” Hill wrote.
“Turns out that I had DVT (deep vein thrombosis), which caused a pulmonary embolism. Blood clots nearly completely blocked my lungs, preventing blood flow to my heart. The doctors told me that I was VERY lucky not to have died.”
“Fortunately, I received EXCELLENT medical care from the team at Temple University Hospital. The doctors accurately assessed my condition and removed the clots. My body is worn out and sore, but I couldn’t feel more grateful to be alive and on the path to full recovery,” he added.
Hill then gave his followers a warning about listening to their bodies.
“Please listen to your bodies. If something feels off, GO TO THE DOCTOR. Don’t worry about seeming like a pain or a hypochondriac. JUST GO. Thanks to everyone who helped or offered to help during this terrifying time. I’m blessed with amazing friends, wonderful family, and plenty of unmerited grace and mercy.”

Before his initial hospital stay, Hill lit the Emmys up over its lack of representation. He also gave a stern but powerful message to Black folks who continue to act like systemic racism and white supremacy hasn’t reigned for over 500 years.
“Listen, y’all. I understand why you’re mad that Black folk are not getting Emmys. We made up 44%, Black and brown people, of the nominations and didn’t get any of the major awards,” he began. “But look– it’s two thousand and twenty-one, we have to stop expecting something different.”
Hill continued, “We have to stop expecting our open enemies to feed us, to clothe us, to shelter us. We have to stop expecting people who have colonized us to educate us, and we have to stop expecting people who have made a history of exploiting our culture, of mocking our bodies– our lips, our hips, our noses and then going to get surgery to look like us.”
No other information has been released regarding his condition. We wish Hill a speedy recovery.
